Our beloved brother William Ward Dorzweiler passed away after a brief illness on May 2, 2026 at the age of 60, surrounded by his loving family.
Wil was born on October 15, 1965 in Gunnison to Teresa and Adrian Dorzweiler and was the seventh son and the 10th child in a large, close-knit family of 11. Even though he was the youngest boy, he never shied away from voicing his opinion, and could hold his own in any conversation.
Wil was known by all as someone who was unforgettable—always the life of the party and never met a stranger. He definitely had the gift of gab. His easy-going nature, infectious laughter and genuine interest in others made everyone feel welcome in his presence. Throughout the years, his family and friends teased him with many nicknames such as Willy, Willy-boy, Willy-Bob, Wilbur, Wilby, Shortsy Babe and Vern.
After earning his GED as a young teen, he spread his wings and pursued new adventures. The unknown awaited him and he boldly embraced the challenge. Wil tried his hands in many fields, including “Cable Guy,” construction worker, restaurateur and securities specialist, to name a few. We think his greatest titles were that of brother, son, uncle and friend. His large family network was not only a source of pride but also a central part of who he was. His love, humor, and vibrant personality will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those who knew him.
We know he is now reunited with his loving mother and father, as well as his older siblings Mel, Timothy and Vivian, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his siblings Anne, Norm (Theresa), Paul, Ruth Logan, Steve (Sharon), Vincent (Bubs) and Yvonne (Todd) Marshall, numerous nieces and nephews, many great nieces and nephews, and his special love Denise Valencia and her niece Skyla Schutt.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that you make a donation to the Gunnison Valley Animal Welfare League. Just like his mother, Wil had a special place in his heart for animals. A celebration of life is planned for later this summer.
