Oct. 9 was a very special and history-making day as the Gunnison Middle School girls soccer team held its very first practice, according to coach Kanae Haneishi.
Haneishi said:
“We had so much fun getting started, and we are excited to begin this new journey together. This team is built on the values of welcoming, accessibility, inclusivity and positivity. Our goal is to create a supportive environment where every girl feels welcome, included, and encouraged to play soccer, regardless of her experience or background.
“We believe every girl deserves the opportunity to play, learn, grow, make friends, and experience the joy of being part of a team. We are committed to breaking down barriers and creating more accessible opportunities for girls in our community to get involved in soccer.
“Today marks the beginning of something special, and we cannot wait to see what this team will accomplish together. Here's to many more fun practices, new friendships, and an amazing season ahead.
“Every girl deserves a place on the field — and in this valley.”
