Creede Repertory Theatre brought light and laughter to Gunnison last Saturday with Boomtown!, Creede's beloved improv comedy group. Boomtown! closed their 20th “explosive” season in September, but made a special regional performance at Western Colorado University in partnership with Western Theatre Company.
Boomtown! kicked off their weekend in Gunnison with a show on Friday featuring improvisers Jake and Jenni Harbour, Julian Ibarra, Bethany Eilean Talley, and director Graham Ward. The show was fast-paced and full of energy. The improv team took crowd recommendations and created hilarious, and sometimes a little wild, bits and skits.
On Saturday, the team held an improv workshop at the Taylor Studio Theatre, where they challenged attendees to let go of control for a couple of hours to laugh and play. The workshop featured a variety of improv and comedy related icebreakers, connection activities, and short sketches. Boomtown! reminded everyone attending that it’s okay to go with the flow and loosen up, and that being silly is more fun than being scared.
