The Crystal River Road is open to the public following recent safety improvements,
though motorists should expect delays as Gunnison County road crews continue work
on the rugged mountain route.
The White River National Forest thanked Gunnison County "for their continued
partnership and exceptional work to improve Crystal River Road," on their Facebook
page.
Last week, crews completed maintenance on the Devil’s Punchbowl section, addressing
numerous hazards and making the route safer to travel. Additional improvements on the
lower stretch of road are expected to continue over the next few weeks, with alternating
traffic and temporary delays between Crystal and Marble.
Despite the safety upgrades, officials remind motorists that the road remains a rugged,
four-wheel-drive route and requires appropriate vehicles and careful driving.
