Grace Archuletta

Posted

Grace Archuletta was born on Aug. 13, 1923 and passed away in Gunnison on Oct. 1, 2026 at the age of 103.

Grace was the daughter of Andrew and Tillie Archuletta. Both parents were born in Saguache and came to Gunnison in 1920. Andrew was in charge of several sheep camps before owning his own sheep ranch on Cochetopa Creek.

Grace graduated from Gunnison High School in 1941 and remained here for the rest of her life. She was highly industrious and worked for Safeway, the Tomichi Inn, Currencanti Recreation Area and also cleaned houses. Her travels took her to the Virgin Islands, Hawaii, California and many other locations, but the Gunnison country was her true love. In her earlier years she could be found dancing the polka and waltz at the Cattleman Inn, the Red Dolly Pub and at the Pavillion in Almont.

She is survived by brother Roy and sister-in-law LaVonne, Georgia, and Betty Archuletta along with many nieces and nephews. She was a much loved member of the Gunnison country and her smile and graciousness will be sorely missed.
