The world lost a good man on May 17, 2025, when Daryl Moore passed away at age 65, after a six-month illness. His passing was peaceful.
Daryl was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, spent his early years in Dallas and Minnesota, then started school in Yukon, Oklahoma and then as an adult in Edmond, Oklahoma. He attended the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree. In 2016 he moved to the Nashville, Tennessee area, before moving to Colorado in 2018, fulfilling a lifelong dream.
Daryl had many passions in life: skiing, backpacking in Colorado, great food, wine, liquor and music. He was a savvy businessman and entrepreneur, owning restaurants and starting a technology consulting business. He loved to network with people and make events happen, such as music festivals in Oklahoma, and helped other young musicians get started. In addition, he was also a talented singer and guitarist. With his move to Gunnison in 2020 he helped Nora Grant and Matthew Grant start Blue Mesa Music Store. He will be remembered by many in town for his big smile, his big ideas and his desire to meet people.
Daryl is preceded in death by his father Robert Alfred Moore, mother Marita Joyce Malacord and brother Rusty Moore. He is survived by his girlfriend Nora Grant, his sister Pam Moore Kaylor, daughter Jessica Moore Wolf (Brad), three grandchildren (Zoey, Wrenley and Asher), and numerous close friends such as Kevin Dowdy (Niobe) and Brent Tevebaugh (Janet).
There will be a private celebration of life in Aspen at the John Denver Sanctuary and then with his family in Oklahoma. Donations can be made in Daryl’s memory to the National Wildlife Federation, one of the humanitarian and environmental groups that John Denver supported.
