Bruce L. Saunders passed away peacefully on Nov. 7, 2025. He was born in Minneapolis. He had just turned 79 on Oct. 18.
After high school, he joined the Marines, then worked as a chef doing ice carvings. He was a City Market manager at a time when the managers designed new stores. He flew his own plane all over Colorado to do so. He retired after 30 years and took courses to become a real estate agent.
Bruce loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter. Using his guns and hand-made bows, he hunted deer, elk, antelope, pheasant and more. He fished for kokanee salmon, lake and rainbow trout, walleye, crappie and pike.
Once retired, his work ethic was unsurpassable. He designed our log home off-the-grid and worked outside from dawn to dusk, mitigating our forest when the Douglas fir beetle killed the trees. The piles of wood looked like it would last for many years.
Bruce was a "big brother" and president of Arrowhead Association, Kiwanis and Gold Basin High Country Rand Association.
He leaves behind his life partner, Noreen Horwirtz, his brother Kent Saunders, his niece Andreanna Saunders, his adopted daughter Heather McClain and his granddaughter Chelsea. Bruce will be forever missed. A celebration of life will be held at his home.
