Yes on 83

Yes on 83
I am writing to establish the facts surrounding Amendment 83 and explain why I believe
a yes vote is so important for Colorado. If passed, Amendment 83 would permanently
protect our already existing hunting and fishing rights into the constitution along with 24
other states who have this protection. The misinformation being peddled about his

amendment can only be labeled as propaganda and is factually inaccurate. Here is
what a “Yes” vote on Amendment 83 actually means.
If passed this amendment would preserve the full authority for the Colorado Parks and
Wildlife to regulate hunting and fishing established laws, licensing requirements,
seasons, and science-based wildlife management practices. It also would permanently

establish hunting and fishing as the primary and preferred method for wildlife
management and conservation. Making it much more difficult for ballot-box biology to
determine wildlife management decisions that have historically been driven by politics
rather than scientific evidence.
The passing of Amendment 83 is not, and I repeat is not going to change or rescind any
existing hunting or fishing laws. It will have zero impact on laws that safeguard non-
game, endangered or federally protected species. Terms that are under attack, such as
“preferred means” and “traditional methods,” simply refer to methods of taking wildlife
that are already authorized under existing law; the phrases themself do not establish or
broaden which methods are permitted.
A “yes” vote on 83 guarantees the continued conservation and stewardship of our
state’s wildlife and the beautifully wild places where they live. As the sign in my yard
says, “Heritage is Worth Defending!” and I couldn’t agree more. Amendment 83 protects
150 years of the North American Model of hunting and fishing. Not only is it our
heritage, but it is also how humans have been feeding their families for centuries.
Protecting this right is essential to the lifeblood of our state, if you haven’t already done
so, please vote yes on 83.
Respectfully,
Madeline Thomas
