By Rev. Fr. Andres Ayala-Santiago, Pastor, St. Peter’s Catholic Church
On Saturday, September 19, 2026, more than 45 parishioners from St. Peter’s Catholic
Church in Gunnison. This sacred journey offered our parish family an opportunity for
spiritual renewal, healing, forgiveness, and a deeper encounter with Christ.
This Jubilee pilgrimage holds special meaning for St. Peter’s as the parish continues its
journey toward its 100th anniversary in 2027 under the theme “Walking as One Family.”
The pilgrimage was an opportunity to give thanks for the generations who have walked
before us, to strengthen the bonds that unite our parish today, and to look toward the
future with renewed faith and hope.
The Jubilee Mass was concelebrated by Fr. Andres Ayala-Santiago, Pastor of St.
Peter’s Catholic Church in Gunnison; Fr. Steve Murray, who served as Pastor of St.
Peter’s before Fr. Andres; and Fr. Yunior Gonzalez of the Diocese of Colorado Springs.
Deacon Lloyd Hawes also assisted at the celebration.
The Sacred Liturgy was beautifully accompanied by sacred music under the direction of
Dr. Edgar Girtain, Music Director of St. Peter’s, together with the St. Peter’s choir,
whose ministry of music enriched the prayer and worship of the entire community.
The pilgrimage reminded us that true parish renewal begins in the heart. As we
approach our centennial, our prayer is that St. Peter’s will continue to be a community
where the wounded find healing, the lonely find a family, young people encounter Christ,
and all who seek God find a welcoming home.
We extend our sincere gratitude to Very Rev. Derek Scott, Rector of the Cathedral of the
Sacred Heart in Pueblo, for his gracious hospitality and warm welcome to our St.
Peter’s parish family.
We returned to Gunnison with grateful hearts and a renewed commitment to our
mission, grateful for our past, united in the present, and filled with hope for our future.
Together, we continue “Walking as One Family” toward the 100th Anniversary of St.
Peter’s Catholic Church.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, heal our families, renew our parish, and guide us on our journey
