Business Spotlight: Wood Product Signs marking 40 years in business this year

Posted

From a humble garage operation to a high-tech manufacturing hub, Wood Product Signs has spent nearly 40 years carving out a legacy in Gunnison.

Founded in 1986, the family-owned business began by crafting small wooden signs for the National Park Service. Today, the company is celebrating a major milestone following its 2024 relocation to a new facility that has significantly expanded its industrial capabilities.

Owner Taylor Hefftner said the move has allowed the business to evolve far beyond its namesake material.

While wood remains a staple of their craftsmanship, the company is currently highlighting its diverse sign types, with a specific focus on custom metal-cut parts.

“If you can dream it, we can build it,” Hefftner said.

What separates the company from its competitors is its “all-under-one-roof” approach. The facility is equipped with multiple CNC machines, large format printers and an in-house dedicated team to take a project from design to completion.

Despite the technological upgrades and increased capacity, the business remains rooted in its local identity. Wood Product Signs is staffed by local employees and would love to partner with local shops looking for a fast, easy solution to precision cut parts.

“We are a small, family-owned business,” Hefftner said, noting the pride he takes in the company’s nearly four-decade history.

As the business looks toward the future in its new facility, it continues to blend traditional service with modern manufacturing.
