Wolf activity across state remains consistent into December

The most recent gray wolf activity map was released by Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) for December, showing that wolf movements from the previous month have largely stayed consistent.

Last month’s map revealed at least one animal had been exploring watersheds surrounding central Boulder County and northern Jefferson County, further east than prior data on the state’s collared wolves had revealed.

In the December report, CPW noted that while wolves have entered these watersheds, it doesn't necessarily mean they have traveled throughout the entire geographic unit or currently occupy it. “No wolves have crossed I-25 or spent time near urban centers,” CPW confirmed.

Recent maps have indicated activity throughout the state, including Park and Lake counties, as well as Gunnison.

In the most recent report, CPW stated that some wolves have continued to explore their new home and make broad movements across the state, while those that have established packs and developed territories have not ranged as far.
