The Gunnison County CSU Extension Office will host its 2026 Calving Clinic on Feb. 2 to help regional ranchers and livestock producers prepare for the upcoming calving season. The hands-on event is designed for both veteran producers and those preparing for their first season.
“Calving season is an essential time for livestock producers, and the right preparation can make all the difference,” said Hannah Cranor-Kersting, Gunnison County CSU Extension director. “This year’s clinic builds on the success of 2025, bringing back expert presenters and introducing even more hands-on models to ensure participants leave with practical knowledge they can immediately apply.”
The full-day event will take place Monday, Feb. 2, at the Gunnison County Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The clinic features expert presentations in the morning, followed by afternoon demonstrations where participants can practice skills using anatomical models. Key topics include:
Nutrition;
Post-natal calf health and scours management;
Calving season tips and logistics;
Managing calving season stress;
Dystocia management with models; and
Epidural administration with models.
Featured presenters include Colorado State University experts Dr. Frank Garry and Dr. Kathy Whitman; Kirsten Wulfsberg, a licensed professional counselor specializing in stress management; and local expert Dr. Seth Neinhauser.
The registration fee is $25 per participant, which includes a light breakfast and lunch. The reduced rate is made possible by community sponsors, including the Gunnison Stockgrowers’ Association, Gunnison Valley Cattlewomen, Gunnison Farm Bureau, RMD Powersports and Western SARE.
Space is limited and pre-registration is required. To register, contact the Gunnison Extension Office at 970-641-1260, email hannah.kersting@colostate.edu or visit https://col.st/eg6xn.
