Crested Butte soccer has ridden their win streak into the 2A state semifinals after navigating their way through the brackets with two solid wins last week. Both games were tight compared to the dramatic scores that marked the end of the regular season. The first, against Buena Vista on Friday, the Titans won 3-2. The next day the team narrowly defeated Fountain Valley 1-0.

The Titans have won 11 out of their last 12 games, only falling to Telluride last Thursday. Crested Butte is up against the Lamar Savages for their semifinal game. The competition will take place at home on Katy O’Rady field at 5:30 p.m.

Lamar has had a competitive season with their overall record sitting at 15-1. The only team it’s lost to this season was Woodland Park last Tuesday, with a score of 2-0. Last Saturday, a week after the Titan’s lost to Telluride, Lamar beat them 3-0.

In the first game last week, Maddie Bogard scored two goals for the Titans. With the game tied, Buena Vista scored on their own goal to seal the win for Crested Butte.

“Friday’s game was a hard fought game,” said Head Coach Heather Culley. “We started off a little slow, then picked it up in the second half. Maddie followed both of Ellie’s shots and was there when they came off the keeper.”

On Saturday, the Titan’s scraped the win with the only goal of the game scored by Ellie O’Neal.

“Saturday was physical,” Culley said. “But the girls held their own and put a goal in with about 20 minutes left in the second half. It was hot and we were tired, but they played hard until the end.”

The other semi final game, between Denver Christian and Dawson School, will also take place at Western Colorado University on Saturday, with the game time slated for 3:30 p.m. The winners of the two games will play the state championship game next Wednesday, May 25, at Dicks Sporting Goods Park in Denver.
