For more than 30 years, the Gunnison Arts Center has helped bring the community together through a simple summer tradition: free live music in the park.
Each summer, the Gunnison Arts Center produces its popular Sundays @ 6 concert series, inviting residents and visitors to gather at Legion Park for free outdoor performances from local and regional musicians. The family-friendly series runs Sundays from June 21 through Aug. 9 from 6 to 8 p.m.
While many concertgoers associate the event with evenings in the park, the Gunnison Arts Center coordinates and presents the long-running program, helping ensure live music remains accessible throughout the Gunnison Valley.
Originally known as Sundays @ 7, the concerts were held at the gazebo in Jorgensen Park. More than a decade ago, the series moved to the stage at Legion Park and shifted to a 6 p.m. start time, becoming the Sundays @ 6 tradition residents enjoy today.
This year’s season, booked and run by Katie Lewinger with Professional High Fivers, features a variety of musical styles, from solo singer-songwriters to larger touring bands, creating an inviting atmosphere for audiences of all ages.
Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and friends for an evening of music and community connection.
The series remains free thanks to support from local business sponsors and donations collected during each concert, helping the Gunnison Arts Center continue offering high-quality performances at no cost to attendees.
Community members can also participate in the GAC Summer Bingo Game by attending programs and events throughout the season. Completed cards must be redeemed by Sept. 30 for a chance to win prizes, with additional completed cards receiving 20% off one class registration.
