After a meticulous two-year restoration, the historic Pitkin Hotel and Bon-Ton Bistro have officially returned to the Gunnison County landscape, blending turn-of-the-century charm with modern luxury.
Originally built in 1904 by D.C. Mason as the Bon-Ton Hotel, the boutique property reopened its doors Aug. 12, 2024. Owner Pam Taylor said the project focused on preserving the building’s architectural history while introducing high-end amenities.
The hotel features 10 accommodations, including nine king and queen suites equipped with mini-kitchenettes and en suite bathrooms. For larger groups, a bunkhouse sleeps eight and offers a full kitchen and dining area.
Inside, the Bon-Ton Bistro is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., offering breakfast, lunch, dinner and happy hour daily. The menu showcases made-from-scratch southern cuisine and specializes in seafood with a Cajun flair. All dressings and sauces are house-made, and every Wednesday features dinner specials, among which is a guest-favorite Cajun seafood boil.
As summer approaches, the outdoor Venue1904 will open for its second year with wood-fired pizzas, an outdoor bar and lawn games. The stage will host live music every weekend throughout the season. Taylor also announced that a new event space will be added this summer across the street to accommodate larger weddings and private parties.
The hotel currently offers a full-service wedding and elopement program, including event coordination and off-site catering. Residents of Gunnison County are eligible for an exclusive 20% discount on all hotel suites through May.
The Pitkin Hotel is currently hiring seasonal employees for the summer. Resumes can be sent to pam.taylor@pitkinhotel.com.
