Mountain Roots expands access to local food

Posted

To help families across all income levels stretch their food budgets while supporting local farms, Mountain Roots is expanding access to farm-fresh local food through its Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program with flexible payment and participation options, including work-trade shares, SNAP benefits, and Double Up Food Bucks.

  • SNAP is Accepted: CSA shares can be purchased using SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits with convenient weekly EBT payments.
  • 50% off SNAP Shares with Double Up Food Bucks: When SNAP is used for a fruit or vegetable CSA, Colorado’s Double Up Food Bucks matches every dollar spent, cutting the cost in half.
  • 100% off with Work-Trade Shares: Community members can exchange weekly volunteer hours for 100% of a vegetable CSA, helping make fresh local food more affordable.
  • Payment Plans - divide your upfront cost into three payments, to be completed by June 21.

These programs help ensure that healthy, locally grown food is accessible to more households across the Gunnison Valley while strengthening the region’s farmers and food system.

The deadline to register is May 31.
