For more than 75 years, Monte Vista Coop has remained rooted in a mission of local service, combining member ownership with a strong commitment to community investment.
Founded in 1949, the cooperative has grown to serve more than 7,000 members across the region. As a member-owned organization, Monte Vista Coop operates differently from traditional businesses. Profits are reinvested into the cooperative, its memberships and the community, helping to support long-term growth and improved services.
That approach extends beyond daily operations. Monte Vista Coop has contributed more than $130,000 to local organizations over the years, supporting schools, youth leadership programs, athletics and other community initiatives. Those contributions reflect the cooperative’s focus on strengthening the communities where its members live and work.
The cooperative has also continued to invest in its infrastructure. In 2022, Monte Vista Coop added a new fertilizer shed and crop protection building to better serve local agricultural needs. Improvements were made in 2025 with the addition of new fueling stations at the Monte Vista Coop C-Store, offering expanded convenience for members and customers.
Guidance for the organization comes from a board of directors made up of experienced individuals with strong local ties. Their leadership helps ensure decisions are made with members’ best interests in mind, reinforcing the cooperative’s community-focused approach.
Becoming a member is designed to be simple and lasting. A one-time fee provides lifetime membership, giving individuals a voice in the cooperative and a stake in its continued success. Membership applications are available online.
Through reinvestment, local leadership and a focus on service, Monte Vista Coop continues to demonstrate the value of a cooperative model built around its members.
