As spring returns to the Gunnison Valley and longer evenings begin to pull people back outdoors, downtown Gunnison will once again come alive with wine, shopping and community connection during the Main Street Mixer.

The event, organized by the Gunnison Country Chamber of Commerce, invites residents and visitors to stroll through downtown businesses while enjoying wine tastings and exploring local shops.

Last year’s inaugural event demonstrated strong interest in an evening gathering that encouraged people to move through downtown, meet business owners and experience Gunnison’s Main Street in a lively way.

“People want to support downtown and are excited about events that bring energy and activity to Main Street,” said Leora Wallace, executive director of the Gunnison Country Chamber of Commerce.

Building on that enthusiasm, the Chamber expanded the concept into the Main Street Mixer, creating an event designed to include a broader range of downtown businesses while maintaining the relaxed atmosphere that made the first event successful.

“The goal is to create a fun evening where people can move through downtown, connect with local businesses and enjoy the energy of Main Street,” Wallace said.

This year’s mixer will feature 10 stops throughout downtown Gunnison, an expansion from six locations during the first year.

Participants will check in at Cake Me Away, receive an event passport and explore Main Street at their own pace while enjoying Buckel Family Wine tastings paired with light bites at participating businesses. Nonalcoholic beverage options will also be available at each stop, allowing more people to take part in the event.

Stops include Treads N Threads, Abracadabra, Toggery Elevated, The Sage Grouse Lounge, Boom-A-Rang, Sugar B’s, Rocky Mountain Frames & Trophies, Gunnison Jerky Co., RE/MAX Community Brokers with a Wild Aster pop-up, and Bluebird Real Estate with a Gunnison Tough pop-up.

Along the way, guests may also encounter special offerings, in-store experiences or promotions as they explore downtown. Participants who complete their passports can enter door prize drawings and receive 10% off dinner that evening at participating restaurants including 1880 Tapas and Spirits, Ol Miner Steakhouse, Mario’s and The Dive.

Stephanie Eastman, owner of Toggery Elevated and a member of the event committee, reflected that last year’s Gunni Gals Fashion and Wine Walk event brought welcome energy to downtown during a quieter time of year.

“Last year it was incredible to see Main Street bustling with people during a season that can often feel quiet,” she said. “It was really encouraging for downtown businesses and we’re looking forward to seeing folks again this year.”

She said events like the Main Street Mixer offer more than just a chance to shop. “Events like this are important because they bring the community together,” she said. “Successful businesses provide more than just goods and services. When we work together, the impact is so much stronger.”

Buckel Family Wine will provide tastings throughout the evening, offering guests the opportunity to sample several Colorado wines.

“We enjoy being part of the Gunnison business community, and participating in this event connects us with shop owners and people across the valley,” said Joe and Shamai Buckel.

Guests will be able to taste several locally produced wines during the event, including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Rosé, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel and Cabernet Franc, along with a few lesser-known selections.

“It’s a great opportunity for people to try our wines,” the Buckels said. “After tasting a few of these award-winning Colorado wines, they might be inspired to stop by the winery.”

Wallace said events like the Main Street Mixer help residents rediscover downtown Gunnison. “Events like this bring people through the doors of businesses and build excitement around downtown.”

She added that the event highlights one of the most distinctive aspects of the community.

“Downtown Gunnison is special because it’s authentic,” Wallace said. “It’s made up of locally owned businesses run by people who are deeply invested in this community.”

Organizers say the event is designed to be welcoming for everyone, with nonalcoholic beverage options available alongside the wine tastings. The Main Street Mixer will take place Thursday, March 26 from 6 to 7 p.m. in downtown Gunnison.

Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 the day of the event, and participants must check in at Cake Me Away to receive their passport and begin the Main Street Mixer route.

Advance tickets are available through the Gunnison Country Chamber of Commerce website, and early registration helps organizers plan for the evening’s turnout. All are invited to step out to enjoy spring, explore downtown and reconnect with neighbors and local businesses.
