Free ditch picnic is May 16

You’re invited to a celebration of the return of Gunnison River Water to the historic town ditch system on Saturday, May 16, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Legion Park Pavilion. See old friends and make new ones at this community event. Enjoy speeches, education tables, poetry, arts and crafts, an interfaith blessing of the water and a free lunch.

Let’s celebrate all that the town ditches have given us and our summer visitors for 146 years. Prior to their construction, there was not a single tree in the town of Gunnison. Organized by students at Western Colorado University with help from numerous volunteers and funding from the City of Gunnison, Walmart, Safeway and Four Seasons Apartments. See you there!
