At Arrowhead Mountain Lodge, veteran outreach has become a meaningful part of its mission, offering former service members a chance to reconnect, recharge and build camaraderie in the Colorado backcountry.
The effort is led by Army veteran Patrick Amie, whose passion for adventure-based programming grew from his own military experience. Working alongside his wife and lodge owner Jessica Amie, the program has expanded through partnerships with organizations such as PT11 and All American Heroes Foundation.
Through these collaborations, the lodge hosts veterans for activities including fishing trips, side-by-side excursions and snowmobiling adventures.
One of the signature events is the annual Warrior Ride, a two-day backcountry experience that brings veterans together to explore the surrounding wilderness by snowmobile.
Now in its ninth year, the event emphasizes connection over conversation, allowing participants to bond through shared experience rather than formal therapy.
Participants also benefit from opportunities to gain skills, including avalanche safety certifications offered in partnership with the All American Heroes Foundation.
Beyond organized programs, the lodge extends its appreciation through small gestures, including offering veterans a complimentary one-night stay during the week of Veterans Day.
“We are beyond honored to host events like this,” said Skye Reid, Arrowhead Mountain Lodge’s lodging, hospitality and guest relations general manager. “Our nation owes a debt that can never be paid to those who are willing to defend her. We will do all we can to welcome those men and women with open arms.”
For many veterans, the combination of outdoor adventure and shared understanding provides a rare sense of connection, helping restore the camaraderie often missed after military service.
