Kael Deslatte, a student at Western Colorado University, passed away at his home in Parker on Nov. 7. He’d been home to celebrate his birthday.

Nov. 10 marked Gunnison County’s inaugural Take a Turkey to Work Day, and local businesses stepped up to help neighbors experiencing food insecurity obtain the ingredients needed to prepare a holiday meal.

The third annual Gunnison Valley Health (GVH) Assisted Living Craft Fair will take place Friday, Dec. 5, and Saturday, Dec. 6, offering the community access to unique, handcrafted arts just in time for the holidays. The event features the work of both staff and residents.

Tenderfoot mountains iconic "W" was lit ablaze on Oct. 10, marking the celebration of Western Colorado University's homecoming celebration.

A carnival and soup supper on Saturday, Oct. 4 at the Fred Field Center raised money to support the High Attitude Dance Academy. The fun included carnival games and face painting.

The annual Gunnison High School homecoming parade closed down Main Street on Friday. Crowds lined the sidewalks to support students and show their Cowboy pride.

On Thursday, Sept. 11 Cowboys of all generations filled the Gunnison High School auditorium to commemorate the tragic 1971 Monarch Pass bus crash that took the lives of eight GHS football players and one coach. Survivors, students, alumni and faculty all listened to the accounts of many perspectives while reflecting on the positives of everyday life.

Mountain Roots hosted its annual "Harvest Hoedown" fundraiser event at South Main on Friday, Sept. 26. After attendees enjoyed a delicious dinner of locally sourced ingredients, the Big Silly String Band led square dancing. There were also booths for art making, face painting and several large fire pits set up.

The 11th annual Color Run was held Thursday, Sept. 25, sponsored by the PTA and Off Center Design. The event received strong support from the Western wrestling and cross country teams, whose efforts were essential to its success. More than 200 students participated in the run, joined by their families and friends, making it a lively and colorful community celebration.
