Two teams emerged Sunday night victors in town league hockey action on Oct. 30; the Gunnison Pizza Company over Econo Lodge, 7-3, in B-League and Dietrich over Pike Construction, 11-6, in A.
Game 1:
The first game started off evenly matched, with scores that bumped up incrementally. Econo Lodge's Rob McWilliams scored the first goal. Pizza Company's Nicholas Randlett secured the second, tying the game.
The Pizza Company's defense was a deciding factor in the team’s victory. Immediately after the score tied, Econo Lodge came back with some aggressive offense, though with no results. Adam Crist got a shot off, but it was deflected by Jess Howard. She attempted to knock in the rebound, but the goalie got a hand on it.
With the first period ending in a tie, the Pizza Company took the initiative. Randlett stuffed another to bring his team into the lead. However, it wasn't long before Econo Lodge scored again, bringing the game back to a tie.
With 1 minute, and 30 seconds left in the second period, a scramble for the puck in Econo Lodge’s offensive zone led to a goal from Kevin Krone — bringing the score to 3-2. Pizza Company quickly retaliated. Shawn Williams knocked one in, tying it up by the end of the second.
In the final chapter, Pizza Company took over the game and surged ahead. The team scored point after point, securing a 7-3 win.
Game 2:
The second game was marked by fast action and intensity on the ice. Before the first period ended, the score had already skyrocketed to 8-3 in Dietrich's favor.
After Pike Construction won the initial playoff in the second period, Evan Ayers took the puck, rocketing a wrist shot that found the back of the net.
Later the Pike team managed to stick with it, scoring two more, but Dietrich would eventually prove too much to overcome. The game ended with a dominating 11-6 win for Dietrich.
