Editor:
We’re a pretty well-informed populace here in our idyllic little valley. We have, now, two great newspapers that reflect regional, state and some national news. The Epstein files figure prominently in the national news.
I want to thank local Republican heads, Cori Balch and Neil Watko for keeping us informed of former President Biden’s activities while in office. Although I haven’t read much from them regarding President Trump’s time in office, I do hope they advocate for him and his wife to appear before the Republican-led House Oversight Committee looking into missing Epstein files from the tranche released by United States Attorney General Pam Bondi’s Department of Justice. Reportedly, President Trump’s name appears more than 38,000 times in the files while his wife, Melania, reportedly had some communication with Epstein’s partner, Ghislaine Maxwell, who is now imprisoned for sex trafficking minors. Certainly, their appearance before the house committee would be in keeping with the president and First Lady Clinton’s appearance. It does seem that President Trump would appreciate the opportunity to refute the reports that over 50 pages and 90 FBI files are missing that may shed light on reports that he abused a 13-year-old girl in 1983. And I do hope that local Republicans will adhere to President Trump’s admonition to eschew mail-in voting and stand in line to vote on election day. That way, they can ensure that there is no jiggery-pokery, that they are indeed registered to vote and that their ballots are counted accurately.
Oh, I would also like to thank the head of the local Democrats, Jim Starr, for keeping us up to date with his letters to the editor on terrible happenings shortly after they occur. It’s good to see such substantive action. It’s in keeping with the appearance of our local Democrats’ Gunnison County Democratic Party Issues Committee – one of several similar ideas recommended to them five or six years ago. Good to see such responsive action. It would’ve been nice if the issues committee letter to the editor appearing in the Crested Butte News had some way for the public to share their issues. I expect the issues committee felt the public could figure out how to make contact. Maybe by a letter to the editor from interested parties.
