Starbucks closes Gunnison location

Posted

The Starbucks in Gunnison has closed as part of a nationwide round of coffeehouse closures announced by the company last week.

A note taped to the door of the shuttered business addressed customers, saying, “To our amazing customers, this week, we made the very difficult decision to close this Starbucks location.”

The note thanked customers and concluded, “Until then, Starbucks Coffee Company.”

In a Sept. 24 message to employees, Starbucks Chief Operating Officer Mike Grams said the company had reviewed its North American coffeehouse locations and identified stores where it did not believe it could consistently deliver the experience it wanted for customers and employees or where it did not see a path to “acceptable financial performance.”

As a result, Starbucks planned to close approximately 250 coffeehouses, representing about 1% of the company’s more than 18,000 North American locations, Grams wrote.

A check of the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, (WARN) website, did not list the number of Colorado employees affected by the closures. A request for comment from Starbucks was not received by press time.
