Never walk alone: Legacy Family Ministries to host 7th annual Walk 4 Life

Posted

Legacy Family Ministries invites you, your family and friends to our seventh annual Walk for Life, this year raising funds for two local nonprofits: Lighthouse Pregnancy Center and Learning Enrichment and Discovery Program (LEAD).

This event will take place Sunday, Sept. 27, at Legion Park in Gunnison from 1 to 3 p.m. Participants are encouraged to wear red and bring a donation. There will be one- and three-mile routes to walk, run, bike or skate with walking tacos served after. This year there will also be a "pay to play cake walk" offering baked goods, with a special cake donated by Cake Me Away. The cake walk will have various rounds offered for a $5 entry and $10 entry, with a $20 entry for the Cake Me Away grand prize! Bring your family, friends, appetite, and cash to get the most from this event.

The theme for this year’s event is Never Walk Alone. Life can present many unexpected challenges and take us on a journey we could never anticipate. It can become overwhelming and isolating all at once. Through this event, we want to spread the message that there is a community that cares. No matter what part of the journey someone may be walking, they never have to walk alone; there is help and there is hope.

The Lighthouse Pregnancy Center embodies this value through their dedication to walking alongside those who are seeking pregnancy options counseling, have experienced a pregnancy loss, or who are pregnant or with children up to 2 years old. This season of life can seem overwhelming, but the Lighthouse is there to empower, educate, and equip their clients for success. Through offering a wide variety of pregnancy and parenting videos in both English and Spanish, clients gain confidence to walk the journey ahead. Through offering a listening ear from a caring advocate, clients know they are safe to honestly share their lived experience and receive hope for the future. Through offering free maternal and baby supplies, clients feel the financial weight lift and are equipped to care for their child. In 2025 the Lighthouse served 45 clients and provided over $10,000 in free maternal and baby supplies including diapers, wipes, clothes, cribs, strollers, car seats and much more. As of June 2026, the Lighthouse has served 50 clients.

The Learning Enrichment and Discovery Program, LEAD, was established in 2020 under Legacy Family Ministries as a two-day-a-week homeschool enrichment program intended to come alongside and lighten the load for parents while enhancing the educational opportunities, unique giftedness, and spiritual development of each and every child. Their first year of enrollment was around 20 students, with continued growth each year. In 2025 LEAD became its own independent nonprofit and currently has over 50 students enrolled this year, ages 3-13. They continue to expand their curriculum, often reaching out to local experts in various skills to present their craft to encourage students in creativity, critical thinking, and professional pursuits.

The continued growth of both organizations is a testament to the need in our valley for these programs and the increased need for support from our community. Please consider offering your support by attending the Walk for Life this September.
