Mark Hillman's screed against "democratic socialism" in last week’s issue of the Gunnison Country Times has a streak of "don't look here, look over there" diversion to it. Who - actually in office right now - is working hard to implement his own agenda with "police and prisons repurposed to capture those who dare resist," even by nonviolent means? This repurposing (hello, Todd Blanche) is being attempted by the president so openly and blatantly that Hillman might as well come out and say, "That kind of thing is only okay if we Republicans do it."
I would agree that the DSA nationally have laid down some fairly extreme objectives in their platform, and expect they will pay a price for that in the election - should the president, who is very much about "control," allow the election to even take place. I liked the way the Democratic primary election in Wisconsin turned out - a moderate and a democratic socialist in a virtual tie for governor (and now doing a "Reunion Tour" through the state together). That sounds like the people of the state saying, to two candidates who did not tell them lies to get their votes: "we want some change but not that much change." It looked, in other words, like real democracy in action. Not a goal of our current president by any stretch of the imagination.
