Posted

Gunnison High School was locked down for almost an hour on Tuesday, March 10.

The Gunnison County Sheriff’s Department made a Facebook post about the lockdown, saying that the lockdown was “proactive while law enforcement evaluates a potential threat.”

The department said that no students or staff were harmed and that “law enforcement officers are on scene and actively assessing the situation to ensure the safety of everyone involved.”

All after-school activities in the district were cancelled for Tuesday.

Law enforcement planned to maintain a presence in all schools, including Western Colorado University, on Tuesday.

The lockdown went into effect at about 10:30 a.m. and was lifted at about 11:25 a.m.

While the lockdown was lifted, a secure perimeter remained in place. Students and faculty were able to move about the building, but no movement in or out of the high school was permitted.
