There's something special about watching hundreds of people of all ages roll through Gunnison on bicycles on a summer evening. Neighbors wave from sidewalks, music fills the air and, for a couple of hours, the community slows down to simply enjoy being together.
That spirit returns Tuesday, July 21, as the Gunnison Music Cruise rolls out at 5:30 p.m., followed by a wellness-themed after-party at Sanctuary Somatics.
"This family-friendly gathering is designed to build on the energy of the Music Cruise by creating a welcoming space for neighbors to connect, dance, make art, share food, and discover local organizations working to strengthen the well-being of our community," according Hedi Magnus with the sanctuary.
The ride begins at the Gunnison Ice Rink and winds through town before finishing at Sanctuary Somatics, 513 S. Main St., where Tiger Electric, Fuerza Cora Brasil Musical, and DJ Skyler Mattias will keep the music going until dark.
The celebration will feature a variety of local organizations focused on health and wellness, including Gunnison Gardens, Mountain Roots Food Project, Instinctive Nutrition, Maya Wellness Center, Gunnison Valley Health, Gunnison Trails, Health and Human Services and others.
Families will also have a chance to meet firefighters and explore a fire truck during the Gunnison Volunteer Fire Department's "Pet the Fire Truck" activity for children.
No community gathering would be complete without good food. This year's lineup includes Pelayo Family Tacos, The PowerWagon Food Truck, Churro Mia and a fresh farm-to-table salad prepared with ingredients from Gunnison Gardens and the Mountain Roots Food Project.
The Music Cruise is made possible through The Resiliency Project, a partnership between the City of Gunnison, the Community Foundation of the Gunnison Valley, the Gunnison Chamber of Commerce and Western Colorado University. Together, the organizations continue to create opportunities that bring residents together while promoting healthy living and community connection.
Spanish-language interpretation will be available through Fluent Connections, helping make the event welcoming and accessible for everyone.
Event organizers are also encouraging Spanish-speaking residents to join the fun:
"La próxima Music Cruise del verano se acerca rápidamente el martes 21 de julio de 2026… ¿estarás allí? ¡Nosotros sí! Ven a disfrutar del recorrido con nosotros hasta Sanctuary Somatics; un gran agradecimiento para ellos por organizar y recibir la fiesta posterior."
Whether you're riding for the first time or you're a regular at the community cruises, the evening promises plenty of reasons to get outside, connect with neighbors and celebrate another Gunnison summer.
