Editor:
As we begin a new year, the Gunnison County Republicans are excited to kick off the 2026 election season with energy, optimism and a commitment to educating voters. No matter your political affiliation, we believe an informed electorate is the foundation of a healthy republic, and we invite the entire community to be part of that process.
We are pleased to launch our 2026 candidate education series on Saturday, Jan. 10, at 8:30 a.m. at Palisades Restaurant. This event will feature U.S. Senate candidates Sean Pond and Dathan Jones, along with gubernatorial candidate Kelvin Wimberly. These candidates are eager to meet voters, share their visions and—most importantly—answer your questions.
This event is open to the public, and we encourage you to bring your friends, family members and neighbors. Whether you are a Republican, Democrat or unaffiliated voter, this is an opportunity to hear directly from those seeking to represent Colorado and to better understand the issues that will shape our future.
As we move closer to the 2026 election cycle, participation becomes even more important. The Republican Caucus will be held on March 7 at Fred Field, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Caucuses are a critical part of our election process. They allow registered Republicans to help select delegates who represent our county at the state level and to vote on which candidates will advance to the June primary ballot.
To participate in the Republican caucus, you must be a registered Republican. Likewise, Democrats must be registered as Democrats to participate in their caucus. These rules ensure that each party’s voters have a clear and fair voice in choosing their candidates.
Being educated and engaged as voters is not just a right—it is a responsibility. Attending candidate forums, asking thoughtful questions and participating in caucuses or primaries strengthens our local community and our nation as a whole.
We look forward to seeing you Jan. 12 and working together toward an informed, respectful and engaged 2026 election season.
