Bennet is the better choice

It’s not often we get so fortunate as to have someone like Michael Bennet vying for the Colorado governor’s seat. For the past 17 years in the U.S. Senate, Bennet has worked hard for the people and environs of Gunnison County, no matter the administration.

I remember meeting Bennet on the banks of the Slate River, at Oh-Be-Joyful, in 2012, where he was asking a gathering of local people to help him protect our public lands by working together to come up with a unified plan he could support and carry forward. That gathering was the genesis of the Gunnison Public Lands Initiative (GPLI) working group, which for over 10 years worked to create a plan acceptable to all stakeholders—a plan that Bennet and others introduced into Congress as the bi-partisan Gunnison Outdoor Resources Protection (GORP) Act.

Michael Bennet has visited Gunnison County numerous times as a senator, even camping here a few years ago, sharing stories with locals. He helped our community solve the seemingly endless riddle of how to protect Red Lady from industrial mining, again showing his ability to confront and solve difficult problems by creative means and cooperation. Our county holds a special place in his heart, and he will continue to keep our needs front and center once we elect him to the position of Colorado governor. He has earned our respect and the state’s highest office.

Let’s show our appreciation for this genuine public servant by voting for Michael Bennet in the Democratic primary by June 30. Please vote—it’s an important year and an important race.
