2026 AgVenture Day deemed a success

Posted

On May 8-9, Gunnison Valley Cattlewomen, with help from many volunteers, hosted more than 550 elementary school children and their teachers at its annual AgVenture Day.

Children from all over Gunnison County rotated through five fun activities focused on agriculture. Ranchers Kensie and Sherry Redden demonstrated the use of horses and stock dogs for managing cattle. Three generations of the Taramarcaz family talked with kids about local cattle brands and helped them design their own personal brands. Gunnison County 4-H Council members taught the students how to do leather craft and highlighted other 4-H activities. Extension staff led kids through a hands-on demonstration of hay production.

The children were also excited to explore a real cattle pot and learn about ranch transportation, thanks to local ranchers Jason and Jessica Peterson. All the elementary kids received educational materials and treats supplied by Colorado Cattlewomen and Gunnison Valley Cattlewomen. On May 9 the FFA club also set up their popular Small Animal Show where smaller kids (pre-K through first) enjoyed learning about animals. It was all a fun, educational event thanks to our many dedicated volunteers, organizers said.
