Like any rodeo cowboy, Peydon McIntyre would love to take his shot at making the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.

The Gunnison Stingrays now have six swimmers qualified for the Colorado Swimming Long-course (CSL) State Senior Championships next week in Thornton — with 30 qualified for Seasonal State Championships the following week.

After 26 years of helping thousands of student-athletes, Don Mundell has announced his retirement as head athletic trainer at Western State Colorado University.

To spectators, it may seem strange to hear an athlete hasn’t washed his socks since the start of a winning streak. However, in sports, superstitions are a common practice. The same can be said for cowboys, who have a long list of superstitions they live by.

Beautiful scenery and 18 holes of fun.

Competitors in this past weekend’s Gunnison River Festival paddled their way into the event’s 15th year with a full line. The Canine Big Air event drew a huge crowd Saturday at the Gunnison Whitewater Park, while floaters and spectators gathered to watch dog’s take flight.

Adam Engleman remembers looking up to college basketball players while sitting on the bench between handing them towels and fetching water. He recalls gazing at the Western State Colorado University logo at center court.
