Bev, a beautiful wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma and friend died at home in Green Valley, Ariz., on Mother’s Day 2018. Bev had a long relationship with the Quartz Creek Valley.

Mary Elaine Sheker was born on Sept. 15, 1929, in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Vince and Edna Sheker (deceased). Her formative years were on a farm where she learned to appreciate everything in the outdoors.

George Means, formerly of Gunnison and Montrose, passed away on May 10 in Mesa, Ariz. Services are pending. A full obituary is forthcoming.

A memorial for Kay Cotten will be held Sunday, June 3 at 1 p.m. at the Fred Field Multi-purpose building at the Gunnison County Fairgrounds. Check Facebook Events for more information.

Dr. Robert D Marquis III, 67, of Glade Park died Friday, May 11 while piloting his small aircraft near Denver.

Dr. Marquis was a beloved family man and dedicated veterinarian.

John Anthony Benson passed away May 13 in Montrose from long term illness. “Tony”, as he was affectionately called for most of his life, lived for several years in Gunnison starting in 2012.

Layton "Butch" Edwin Metz, Jr. passed away on April 29 at St. Mary's in Grand Junction. Layton was born on March 2, 1948 to Layton E. and Phyllis (Langston) Metz, Sr., the oldest of four children, in Fort Collins. He was 70 years old at the time of his death.

Cody Weston Rice, age 54, of Cimarron passed away on Friday, April 27 in the comforts of his home. Cody was born May 4, 1963 in Gunnison. He spent his childhood in Gunnison and Cimarron and some in Marshfield, Mo., where he was a member of White Oak Baptist Church.

Ralph “Peter” Carbone, 41, formerly of Seneca Falls, N.Y., passed away on Friday, April 20 in California as a result of injuries received in a motor vehicle accident. Family and friends attended a Memorial Mass on Friday, April 27 at St. Patrick’s Church, in Seneca Falls, N.Y.

Tom Archuletta passed away on April 25. Tom was born and raised in Gunnison. He graduated from Gunnison High School and joined the U.S. Air Force where he honorably and faithfully served from 1961-65. Tom attended Mesa College for a year and then married the love of his life Georgia Pawless.
