Crested Butte native Mary Apolona Stefanic-Armanini was born in Crested Butte on July 18, 1922. Her parents Mike (Misko) Stefanac (1879-1926) and Katarina (Kata) Stefanac (1884-1959) were immigrants from Croatia. The last name was somehow “Americanized” to Stefanic through misspelling.

Montrose and Cimarron resident, Earl F. Alford, 80, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday April 21 surrounded by his family.

Son of Henry Alford and Lillie Lince, Earl was born in Yakima, Wash., on Nov. 13, 1937.

Celia M. Swank, age 98 of Lake City passed away on Tuesday, April 17 at the Gunnison Valley Health Senior Care Center in Gunnison. Crippin Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements, 970.249.2121.

A celebration of life for Samuel Sorkin will take place Saturday, April 28 at 5 p.m. at 513 S. Main St. in Gunnison. All are welcome to attend this potluck to enjoy food and drink as Sam did and share memories of him.

On April 12, Samuel L. Sorkin of Gunnison passed away. Beloved son of Lawrence and Laura Sorkin; dear brother of Elyse (Mark) DeVries, Michael Hyman (Durwood Whitten), and Anne Roy (the late Paul). Sam is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Sidney H. Dickinson passed away peacefully at his home in Gunnison on Thursday, April 12. He was born April 8, 1929 in Salida. Sid is preceded in death by his parents Richard Frank and Orphie Dickinson, his brothers Henry and Richard, and his son Michael.

Patricia "Patti" Ann Bouchard Bippus, 76, originally from Gunnison passed away in Fairbanks, Alaska on March 25. Patti was a loving mother to Stosh, Stanna and Stacia Bippus. She had two grandchildren Riggin and Conner Bippus and was a sister to Shirley Miller and Betilu Evans.

Garry P. MacKrell, 49, of O’Donnell Rd., Chicora, Pa., went to be with the Lord Sunday evening, April 8 surrounded by his loving family at the home of his parents following a brief battle with cancer.

Shaunalee Prather passed away peacefully on April 4. Shaunalee is survived by her husband Professor Tom Prather of Western State, brother Rod McKinnon of Ridgway and her sister Marilee Moore of Montrose.
