Longtime Gunnison summer resident, Mitzi Mae Camp, passed away at the age of 90 on Nov. 9, 2020 after a short illness.
Mitzi was born in Grand Prairie, Texas to Frederick Edward and Ivah Mae Hoffman and graduated from North Dallas High School. She spent many years working in the insurance industry. She was a faithful member of the Northeast Alanon Family Group for many years and always said she owed her happy and fulfilled life to that program and the members of the group.
She loved to play bridge and played every Wednesday wherever she was at the time. During the summer, the cards flew with her best friends in Taylor Canyon and Spring Creek Most of all she loved watching her grandchildren grow up. As she was always just a kid at heart, joining her kids and grandkids on trips and outings to destinations near and far was always a special joy.
Her 35 years of summers in Colorado were the highlight of her year where she played for three months each year with old and new friends. She loved watching the eagles fly over the mountains, taking jeep trips up lonely dirt roads and simply absorbing the quiet beauty of our mountains and rivers. Mitzi loved the intimacy of small town life. The Fourth of July celebration, concerts in the park, cruising our wonderful shops on Main Street and, especially, visiting with all the amazing, special people here truly made this her “Happy Place.” She was rarely seen without a dachshund at her side. Eternal rest grant unto her 0 Lord, and let perpetual light shine on her.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, F.E. Hoffman, Jr., Clayton Hoffman.
Survivors are Brian L. Camp, Jr., son and wife Cherrie Camp of Almont, Colo.: Ali Maddox, daughter and husband Stan Maddox of Colleyville, Texas; Four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
