Western women ascend to national poll

Western Women’s Basketball — The Western Colorado women’s basketball program hit a first on Tuesday as the Mountaineers were ranked No. 13 in the first D2SIDA Women’s Basketball Division II Media Poll of the season. This marks the first time the program has been ranked in any national poll.

Mountaineers make it rain 3s

Western Men’s Basketball — The Western Colorado men’s basketball team drained a season-high 18 3-pointers and outscored Colorado Christian by 14 points in the second half to pull away for a 102-87 victory Saturday at Paul Wright Gym.

Youth Nordic booms

Dos Rios Golf Course is a hotbed of activity this winter, as local ski enthusiasts have taken advantage of groomed cross country ski trails, courtesy of Gunnison Nordic Club and with the generous permission of the member-owned club. Last Saturday skiers showed up for lessons hosted by Gunnison Nordic. The club is hosting lessons in both classic and skate disciplines for the next two Saturdays in January. Classic kick

Molly Susla digs in for the win in the Women’s 10K Classic Race in last weekend’s Alley Loop Citizen’s Series, put on by the Crested Butte Nordic Center.
