West Elk splits games at home over weekend

West Elk U19 Hockey — Despite losing to the Salt Lake City Lady Lightning on Saturday by a score of 3-2, the West Elk U19 hockey team snapped their four-game losing streak on Friday.

The Wolverines defeated the Lady Lightning 3-2.

“It felt good, mainly because we saw what we were capable of with such a small team,” said the Wolverines’ Ruby Barron. “We’ve worked really hard so far this season and it paid off.”

Barron got things going early for the Wolverines on Friday. After Anika Anderson passed the puck to Barron, she found the back of the net to give the Wolverines a 1-0 lead.

The Lady Lightning tried to respond. However, the Wolverines played stellar defense in the first period. West Elk dominated defensively for the majority of the first period, allowing fewer than five shots on goal.
