Getting lost while trying to enjoy a trail hike is never fun. It could be dangerous and result in being forced to spend a night alone, in the unforgiving Colorado mountains.

Derrick Nehrenberg had such an experience while hiking between Purgatory Resort and Durango awhile back. In fact, it’s what inspired him to create the CBGTrails app by Traildock in 2015 — which has allowed tourists and residents of the Gunnison Valley to have “the most complete map of this area,” Nehrenberg said.

As envisioned, that map will only get better as more people participate and log their routes.
