Talks mark shift in philosophy surrounding development

In what appears to be a philosophical shift, county leaders are taking a closer look at their approach to evaluating landuse change proposals.

Rather than approving any project anywhere with mitigating measures, they may be poised in coming years to say “no” to projects they feel are inappropriate in certain areas.

Gunnison County Commissioners met with Planning Commission Friday morning followed by a visit with City of Gunnison staff in the afternoon. Chief among both discussions was the best way to approach planning in the area surrounding city limits — in light of the increasing potential for commercial and industrial development.
