Tom Archuletta passed away on April 25. Tom was born and raised in Gunnison. He graduated from Gunnison High School and joined the U.S. Air Force where he honorably and faithfully served from 1961-65. Tom attended Mesa College for a year and then married the love of his life Georgia Pawless. They recently celebrated 52 years together and have one daughter, Debra Lynn Beatty. Tom loved the great outdoors and enjoyed fishing and hunting. In 1972 he joined the Gunnison Fire Department where he worked his way through the ranks to become the chief of the department. He also worked on the ambulance service as an EMT. He had the opportunity to deliver a baby in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. A lifetime member of the Elks Lodge #1623 for 33 years, he served as the exalted ruler for three years and was its lounge manager for two years. He devoted his life to serving and helping his community and others. Preceding him in death were his parents, Andrew and Tillie Archuletta; brothers Richard, Namacio, and Gilbert ; sisters Augustina, Theresa and Florence. He is survived by his wife, Georgia; daughter Debra Lynn Beatty; brothers Andy (Betty) Archuletta, Lou (Lavonne) Archuletta, Roy Archuletta; and sister Gracie Archuletta. Church services will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church at 11 a.m. on May 4. Graveside service immediately following at Gunnison Cemetery and reception to follow at the Gunnison Elks Lodge.
