CBHS Hockey — The Crested Butte Titans traveled to Denver this past weekend to take on the first place and undefeated Valor Christian Eagles. The upset-minded Titans, however, were unable to skate away with a win.

In the first game on Friday, the Titans gave the Eagles a scare, striking first on a nice breakout play. Matthew Solanik corralled the puck behind the Titans’ net and passed out to Elijah Waters, who chipped it out to Ted Trujillo who streaked down the ice to give the Titans an early 1-0 lead.

The momentum shifted back to the Eagles when they scored two goals of their own in the last five minutes of the first period to take a lead into the first intermission.

Another Eagles goal in the second period extended the deficit, but hard play aided by two power plays kept the Titans upset hopes alive. An Eagles third-period goal sealed the game and handed the Titans a hard-fought 1-4 defeat.
