Split games against Aspen over weekend

CBHS Hockey — Missed opportunities against a strong team often will result in a loss.

The Crested Butte High School (CBHS) hockey team can relate after going two-ofnine on power plays Saturday, resulting in a 5-4 loss to Aspen High School — the Titans’ first loss at home this season.

“After a win and a loss to Aspen, it’s hard to make a judgment call on where we are at as a team,” said CBHS’ Sam Stepanek. “We all know that any team can beat any other team at any given time, due to this being proven time and time again. In our eyes, the state championship is up for grabs.”

The Titans entered the game coming off a 5-2 victory over the Skiers on Friday, and it appeared early on that CBHS was going to take care of business per usual. However, after a Dominic Piccaro power play goal — with 12:23 left in the first period — Aspen’s offense caught fire.
