CBHS Hockey — It was a physical game from start to finish. The Crested Butte High School (CBHS) hockey team faced Woodland Park this past Saturday at Jorgensen ice rink in Gunnison, and despite 25 minutes of penalties on 11 infractions, the Titans managed to skate away with a victory. “It felt good to get a win at home after a loss on the road,” said Sam Stepanek. “We didn’t play to our full potential and are hoping to improve in the next game.” From the start, CBHS was playing shorthanded. Just 1:17 into the first period, a Titan player was sent into the box for two minutes for cross checking — resulting in CBHS’ defense being forced to step up. Step up they did. The Panthers had several shots on goal, but none found the back of the net. While it looked like the Titans were going to neutralize Woodland Park’s power play opportunity, things took a turn for the worse.
