Commissioners travel to Ouray for ‘listening session’

A chorus of diverse stakeholders is echoing a position held by Gunnison County Commissioners regarding two competing pieces of federal legislation. County Commissioners were joined by those other voices in Ouray Tuesday to encourage Congressman Scott Tipton to consider changes to his draft Colorado Recreation Enhancement and Conservation Act, or Colorado REC Act.

Yet, despite support for Gunnison County’s suggestions, others took aim at greater protections for public lands.

Tipton’s bill, which has yet to be introduced in the House, has similarities to the Colorado Outdoor Recreation (CORE) Act, a bill sponsored by Sen. Michael Bennet and 2nd Congressional District Rep. Joe Neguse.
