The perspectives on pedalassisted bikes versus analog bikes are much like modern politics — there are two extreme viewpoints, and they rarely change their position. While it’s probably going against the tide, I feel that the rapid regulation against pedal-assisted bikes by the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and now local entities is shortsighted on so many levels.

Even the International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA) has come around — their current position statement is “IMBA is supportive of Class 1 eMTB access to non-motorized trails. …” And, when it comes to trail impact, a recent IMBA study shows no significant difference between pedal-assisted versus analog mountain bikes.
