GHS Swimming — There were high and low points for the Gunnison High School (GHS) swimming team this past weekend at the 3A State Championships in Fort Collins. As a whole the Cowboys finished 18th among 27 teams.
“I think we did really well,” said head coach Tami Maciejko. “We should have been higher, but I think the girls had a little stage fright.”
The highlight from state was provided by the 200-yard medley relay and 400 free relay teams, which finished 11th and 12th, respectively.
Molly Strickland and Alexandra Riser led the way for GHS, each making it to the finals in an event. Strickland stood out in the 100 free, finishing in 13th with a time of 58.60 — in the process, taking .15 off her time. Riser was right on Strickland’s heals, finishing in 14th with a time of 58.61.
