Within hours of taking office last week, Gunnison County Sheriff John Gallowich acted on a campaign promise to make changes to how law enforcement is handled at the north end of the valley.
Gallowich struck an agreement with Mt. Crested Butte Police Department, asking the agency’s officers to continue responding to calls in the unincorporated county surrounding Crested Butte.
“This is a temporary agreement which will allow the Sheriff to insure (sic) that all citizens receive the proper service and protection, while other options are considered,” Gallowich explained late Tuesday via e-mail. “The Safety of all our citizens is a priority to the Sheriff’s Office.”
