You may have heard this saying before, and if not you’re likely to hear it — probably with increasing frequency — in the near future: “Rural is the new urban.”

I heard ICELab/Small Business Development Center Director Delaney Keating first utter that phrase during a session earlier this year in which local startups pitched their business proposals to potential investors. However, the idea that ever-increasing congestion in heavily populated areas is forcing urbanites to find refuge in remote locations took on new meaning when I stumbled across a recent article titled, “Why your mountain town could be the next Silicon Valley.”
