Yesterday was 9/11, and that always means something more in Gunnison than it does for the rest of the country.
Long before the date became the commemoration of this nation’s war against jihadist terrorism, it was a date that forever changed the makeup of our community. Sept. 11, 1971, was the day that eight local teenagers and one young adult lost their lives in a tragic school bus accident on Monarch Pass.
“Everyone who lived in Gunnison — everyone — was impacted by the tragedy.”
