Today is Valentine’s Day, and as usual this edition of your hometown newspaper is filled with stories about love.

Is that too corny for you? Well, take a peek at our “Love Lines” on the cover of this week’s RoundUp section and tell me if the image of Tom Vernard teaching his sweetheart Polly “how to drive” just a few short years ago — 57, to be exact, but who’s counting? — doesn’t warm your heart.

And the affectionate angling prose by Paige Buckner, the fish her beau “didn’t release,” is precious.

Perhaps the sweetest tale reported this week is the one of two orphaned bear cubs who got off to a rough start in life (through no fault of their own, of course), losing their mommas, bonding with each other at a Del Norte wildlife “rehab” center and are now cuddled up in a makeshift hibernation den in a rugged and remote corner of the West Elk mountains near here.
